Restorations

In this world of fibreglass and aluminium, wooden boat building and restoration has become an art. Aczel Marine deals in all construction methods, but get their biggest buzz out of restoring beautiful old timber boats.

This beautiful old boat, built by a fifth generation Biggera Waters boat builder Gary Doornbos, who retired in 2008, has undergone a complete restoration by Aczel Marine.

The boat is a Clem Masters design, which makes it very special. Clem was a master Brisbane boat builder, who established his yard at Deagon Slipways in the 1950s. The Masters motor boat was created here, as well as three of the classic Tasman Seabird yachts, Safari, Pagan and Carousel.

This Caribbean Jaguar ski boat underwent a complete refurbishment, inside and out, at Aczel Marine.

This included a new windscreen, Flexiteek deck, repaint, new fuel tank and motor, fibreglass repair and even the upholstery.

Aczel Marine has rescued many an old boat from the graveyard.

They work with other independent professionals such as marine electricians, sail makers, upholsterers and engineers to ensure that every aspect of a restoration is carried out by experts in the field.

Helena, the boat on the left, was built in Brisbane in the 1960s as a working boat, with a big Volvo diesel inboard, probably used to haul the lines for large cargo ships.

After a working life and a more leisurely life as a family boat for a Gold Coast family, it was finally left rotting on a canal mooring when the owner became too old to care for her.

Aczel Marine came to the rescue and over a two year period completely restored Helena, serving as a real case study for Aczel apprentices in timber boat building.

In more recent years, Helena's new owner has relied on Aczel Marine to repaint her and add a bow thruster and other modern aids to navigation and onboard comfort.

Thanks to Aczel Marine, Helena is enjoyed a new life on southern Moreton Bay.

As a final touch, the main cabin floor has been rebuilt, with removable panels for access to its three-cylinder Yanmar diesel engine and the surface finished off with a varnished Flexiteek charcoal deck, also made by Aczel Marine, who is exclusive Australian agent for Flexiteek.
